It’s The Little Things

No matter what age you are, I hope you know by now that life’s great treasures are the little things. I can certainly testify that getting a compliment from a stranger, receiving a hand written letter or reading a devotional that seemed to be written just for me stay memorable in my mind. Even the smell of clean laundry or waking up to birds chirping can instantly make my day! Maybe I am easy to please or maybe the little things are actually the big things.

Every now and again, I check because it puts life into perspective.  It is simplicity where I find my happiness. We have one life to live and that could end at any moment so why solely focus on such serious matters when there are foggy windows to be written on, scratch and sniff stickers to be smelled and perfectly smooth peanut butter jar to be scooped into.

Having the right perspective in all aspects of life is a choice. There are countless reasons to smile so why would you give anything power over you to take away your happiness? I challenge you to be attentive today or think back on your day to a few things that are so minuscule but give life worth. Did you achieve the perfect milk to cereal ratio? Did the song end at the exact moment you turned your car off? How about, did you make someone giggle?

Maya Angelou sums this topic up perfectly. She said, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Be the little thing that will make someone never forget how you made them feel. Additionally, never forget about those you have impacted you for the better. Maybe you don’t know them very well or maybe they are a person you will only have the chance to encounter once in your lifetime. It doesn’t matter because it is all about the little things.
